The popular Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao has declared that he fights for God and for his country, before he climbed the ring to face Oscar de la Hoya in a boxing fight billed as a "Dream Match" to be staged at the MGM Grand today in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“This is the fight of my life, this is the biggest challenge in my boxing career, and I know that if I emerge victorious in this battle, all of us will reap the blessings and we will share all the glory” said Manny Pacquiao, in Filipino language, before his fight with Oscar de la Hoya at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“At 8 p.m. 6 December 2008, at the MGM Grand, Oscar de la Hoy and I will fight to end the “Dream Match”, the biggest and the most important boxing fight of the year and perhaps in the history of boxing. I will be with you tonight and together we will pray as one in fighting the golden boy of boxing, one of the pillars of boxing, the kind of sports that I learned to love and dream about. Every punch that I will throw will carry the weight of 90 million Filipinos all over the world including millions of people that are supporting me as a champion in the ring”.
“I am excited to show the power, speed and bravery of a Filipino warrior like what our warrior; Lapu-lapu has shown in the battle of Mactan. I feel good, in the right frame of mind and most of all I believe that God is always beside me and will carry me to victory today,” he added.
“In a few hours, its fight time, I wish you will continue praying so that all of us will become world champions”.
