Manuscript in Kashmiri calligraphy of Holy Quran unveiled

Srinagar, September 24 (Scoop News) In what could termed as a much needed boost to the Kashmiri calligraphy an 800 pages long Quranic manuscript was today unveiled by the Hazrat Bulbulshah Abdul Rehman Sharaf Ud Din Turkistani Trust here.

            The holy Quran which is written by hand and is a masterpiece of calligraphy was unveiled at a prestigious ceremony organized by the trust at the Lalarukh Hotel in the presence of Jammu and Kashmir’s grand Mufti and Chairman of the Bulbul Shah Trust .The manuscript is the penmanship of one the valley’s famous religious leader Mir Ghulam Muhammad Sanoori. The manuscript was unveiled to a huge gathering of Islamic clerics, scholars and students. The completion of the project was reached after a long period of two and half years. One of the reasons which make this manuscript even more important is the fact that the calligraphy employed in it is in tune with the traditions and criterion as set since the times of Amir Kabir and Bulbulshah .The occasion was also marked by the launch of manuscript of the Maulana  Qasim Shah Bukhari’s Kashmiri translation of the holy Quran which also comes from Mir’s pen.

            Speaking at the occasion Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Muhammad Bashir Din Ahmad Farooqi and the chairman of the Bulbul Shah trust Khawaja Farooq Renzu congratulated Mir for his achievement and stressed the need to encourage others to revive the dying art in the valley.

            The Jammu and Kashmir Grand Mufti while speaking at this occasion felicitated Bulbul Shah Trust, its chairman and the members, besides all ulemah presents on the occasion for presenting such a masterpiece in the present era. He said that when people had forgotten pen and relied more on computers and machines Mir Ghulam Muhammad had created a devotional example by writing this masterpiece of calligraphy in the same style of calligraphy that has been prevalent since the 13th century in the valley. He hoped that the new generation will understand the importance of the pen and the devotional expression through Mir Gh Muhammad’s pen. He said that all great Wali kamils and Sufi Saints preferred to make copies of Holy Quran by the pen in grandeur calligraphic styles and the present hand written copy of the Quran sharief is the living example of the same tradition. He expressed the hope that the trust members will show this beautiful calligraphy of Quran sharief in all parts of the valley and the state and it will be rested permanently at the Bulbul Shah shrine.

            Khwaja Renzu shah urged the Muslims of the valley to promote the bonds of brotherhood and interreligious harmony and spread the message of peace as the same amounts to our collective strength in the present circumstances.

            Other dignitaries that were present at the occasion included Mirwaiz Central Kashmir Maulana Abdul Lateef Bukhari, Dr. Gh Nabi Haleem Khateeb, Maulana Sajad Ishbari,Maulana Muhammad Ramzan, Syed Sharief Ul Haq Bukhari,Mufti Muhammad SAif Ullah Shah, Basharat Qadri,Mir Mushatq Ul Haq Nayeemi,Syed Tahir Sahib, Prof. Gh Nabi Shaheen, Mir SonaUllah Shah Khosepuri, Molvi Syed Shamsu Din Nizami, Ishfaq Ahmad, Mubashir Hussain.

            The manuscripts would be kept in the shrine of Bulbul Shah Srinagar and the public display of the same would also be ensured in the coming days.
