I did a report the other day involving a story which was first reported on Military.com website regarding an incident in April of this year, in which a Russian Su-27 fighter jet buzzed a U.S. Air Force RC -135U surveillance aircraft in the Pacific.
As is typical in such cases I sought to verify the information with the Pentagon by asking certain questions. For example; “Why was the U.S. conducting surveillance in this are in the first place?” I should add that the Pentagon refused to answer that question.
I suspect it had something or another to do with the Russian military. That much, of course is obvious, since the incident involved a Russian fighter aircraft.
Its also safe to assume the Russian military knew it was being watched at the time and which caused it to dispatch the fighter jet in the first place. Needless to say they were not happy about that situation.
No Russian fighter is going to intercept a US spy plane “buzz it” during fly by’s and expose its underbelly to show its armed with missiles unless they were trying to warn that aircraft to “turn back” – which is apparently what happened, although the Pentagon refuses to confirm that.
What exactly the Russians were hiding remains unclear as well.
I contacted the Russian Ministry of Defense which also refused to comment in this matter by email.
So the mystery of what exactly is behind this incident remains unanswered.
