Nepal’s Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-Maoist), Prachanda is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 26 on behalf of Nepal.
He will reach New York on Sunday. US President George Bush will welcome heads of states or governments of UN member countries on September 22. Prachanda will be one of the invited guests in President Bush’s welcome party.
The US Administration previously considered Prachanda as a terrorist leader. After he was elected by the Nepalis as the new prime minister of the country, the US Administration has not specified what to call him now.
Usually, there is no custom to invite a so-called terrorist leader to the president’s welcome party.
On Maoists’ side, they have expressed their desire to carry on with peaceful and democratic politics based on the universal principles and human rights.
While in New York, Prime Minister Prachanda will participate in the programs organized by Asia Society and India-China Society.
