The Central Committee meeting of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-Maoist) has ended without settling over the two different themes regarding the future direction of the party.
Maoist Chairman and Prime Minister Prachanda submitted a theme of utilizing the current democratic opportunities while making efforts for more people-oriented democracy. Countering Chairman Prachanda’ proposition was another theme presented by politburo member Mohan Baidya Kiran, who argued that the current system would serve only elites and that the party should proceed with people’s republican system.
However, all the central members participating in the meeting agreed to carry forward the unsettled issues over to the party cadres’ national conference that has begun in Bhaktapur on Friday afternoon.
Leaders deny any possibility of party division over such differing issues.
Maoists, who were engaged in a decade-long armed insurgency, entered the mainstream peace process in 2006. They emerged as the largest political force after the April-10 Constituent Assembly poll.
The party cadres’ national conference is believed to synthesize and finalize the arguments.
Meanwhile Maoist Chairman said on Friday afternoon that his party would emerge still stronger with unity. “Nobody should daydream of our party division,” he said.
