Ultra left Maoists in India often use children to eliminate ‘class enimies’ .They recruit minor boys and girls and train them.On Sept.15,2009,Communist Party of India(Marxist)leader was shot dead in Maoist infested Lalgarg by child ‘recruits’.Experts believe that Maoists recently recruit children as their armed cadres in Lalgarg areas of West Bengal.
Child soldiers are heavily recruited by African rebels.LTTE of Srilanka also used childern as child soldiers.Rebels in northern Uganda, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) abducted childern to work as soldiers.The Sierra Leone civil war, started by the Revolutionary United Front (RUF)in1991,also used children.According to the United Nations estimate, around 300,000 child soldiers, as young as 8, are exploited in civil wars in more than 30 countries around the world.LTTE also used children as soldiers.In 1999, the Security Council for the first time looked into the global issue of children and armed conflict.The security Council passed resolutions 1261 (1999), 1314 (2000), and 1379 (2001), which provide provide a zone of protection for children caught in war zones,the international community’s condemnation of the use of child soldiers,and ensure that member countries actively monitor the industries (small arms and diamond trades) known to prolong wars and harm the young.According to Amar Bhattacharya,an expert on Naxalite movement in India,it’s not a new phenomenon.The Maoists believe in Jana juddha(people’s war),so they want participation of people from all walks of life.So,it’s irrelevant for them whether they are young or old.
