Maria Gracinda Teixeira, a 77 year-old former model and ballerina from Brazil, has stepped forward as the woman who captured presidential candidate John McCain’s heart when he was docked in Rio De Janeiro 51 years ago.
John McCain speaks of indulging in the "vices sailors are famous for" with a "brazilian fashion model" for the week that he was docked in the port city of Rio De Janeiro in his memoir "Faith of My Fathers." McCain wrote that he flew back to Rio after he returned to America but that his love affair did not work out because of "youthful impatience and short attention spans."
Maria Gracinda Teixeira says that she was the one for whom John McCain flew nearly halfway around the world to see again. "We met because I used to have lunch near the docks," Teixeira said. "He is so cute. But I never imagined he would write about me, that was a surprise."
Even though McCain never mentions the name Maria Gracinda Teixeira in his memoir, Teixeira is sure that she is his unnamed Brazilian lover. Perhaps Teixeira’s public appearance, 51 years after her romance with McCain, will jog his memory.
