Maria Sue Chapman, the daughter of Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman, was killed Wednesday after being hit by a car in the driveway of her family’s home, says the Associated Press.
It appears the car that hit Maria Sue Chapman was driven by her older teenage brother, Will Frankel.
Maria Sue Chapman was 5 years old, the adopted Chinese daughter of Steven Curtis Chapman. The 5-time Grammy winning Christian music star posted the news on his website, with the message: "The Chapman family is so grateful for the incredible outpouring of love and support at this difficult time."
The Chapman family did Christian missionary work in China and has two other adopted daughters from China. They founded Shaohannah Hope Ministry in the name of their first adopted daughter, Shaohannah.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said of the incident that "it looks like a tragic accident."
The family is encouraging donations to Shaohannah’s Hope in lieu of flowers.
