Former WBC super featherweight boxing champion Juan Marquez of Mexico is still reeling from the impacts of his defeat to Manny Pacquiao, who wrested the belt from him at Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas March 15. Until now, Marquez couldn’t accept that he really lost to Pacquiao in a unanimous decision.
Marquez has been sour griping to the world, through media interviews that he won the recent fight in Las Vegas. I’m not sure if Marquez was just generating publicity or pity from his fans or not. If he escaped the wraths of Pacquiao by surviving a knockdown, he could have won the boxing match. A knockdown is a knockdown, no matter what you say. Even in their first fight, Marquez suffered a knockdown. Therefore, it is not surprising why Marquez has been very eager for the third time to have a face-to-face match with the Philippines’ boxing hero.
Comparatively, Erik Morales is more matured, cool and gentleman than Marquez. Accepting defeat is a gentlemanly act in any sports arena that others may emulate in the true spirit of sportsmanship. Another rematch between the two is possible. But that will come after Pacquiao faces David Diaz in June this year.
