Malayalees the traditional natives of Kerala have their own ways of getting married.Malayalees can be called hindus who may marry their cousins except the namboodiris.Christians who marry among their community but do not marry their blood relatives.Then the muslims who do take their life partner from their community and close relatives including cousins.
Christian marriages are held in Church with most of the wedding ceremony on the same day.The groom ties a sacred thread around the neck of the bride while the priest reads from the holy book.
Namboodris Hindus have elaborate marriage ritual spanning 4 days where the father gives away the bride to the grooms family and the prospective groom ties a taali around the brides neck.
Muslims have the tradition where the baraat arrives at the grooms house and mehr is given to the brides family.A document for nikhnama is also signed.A viddai or good bye is also given to the newly married couple.
Thus Marriages are made in heaven or in God’s own country.
