Jammu, February 05, (Scoop News)-Choudhry Shafiq Ahmed, eldest brother of PDP MLA from Darhal Constituency, Choudhry Zulfkar Ali and son of late Choudhry Mohammed Hussain, a close associate of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, on Wednesday joined National Conference at a specially held function at the party headquarters here.
Choudhry Shafiq, who retired as Deputy Registrar Cooperatives in December last, joined the party in presence of Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana and senior National Conference leaders this morning.
Welcoming Choudhry Shafiq into the party fold, Mr Rana said that National Conference is the only and natural choice for all right thinking people, who want to serve the State and steer it to peace, progress and all round development. “It is a movement and not merely a political party that has stood by the side of people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions during most testing times and never hesitated in offering sacrifices to safeguard their legitimate political interests”, he said and hoped that joining of right and public spirited people will infuse strength a new vigor to the Caravan that is on path of achieving the cherished agenda of public service under the stewardship of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The Provincial President referred to the revolutionary steps taken by successive National Conference governments in assuaging peoples’ aspirations and made a specific mention of initiatives taken during the past five years in empowering people by involving them in decision making, ensuring transparency in the government and making it responsive to the needs of all segments of society. He said the governance has been given a new dimension by taking administration to the door steps of people at remote and topographically disadvantageous areas. “The enthusiasm that is seen across the State after Omar Abdullah announced creation of new administrative units stands testimony and public endorsement to the sagacious decision of the Chief Minister”, he observed.
While the historic decision has brought cheer to the people living in nook and corner of the State, it has spelled doom to vested interests who, out of frustration and dejection, were trying to attribute motives. “Yes, the Chief Minister had a definite motive and interest in getting this landmark initiative through, after braving all the odds, as it was need of the time and in the best interests of the people of all the three regions”, he maintained. He said the overwhelming public response has vindicated the sagacity and far-sight of Omar Abdullah and isolated the political obstructionists and ‘paper tigers’ , who are pouring out their venom by trying to hoodwink public opinion.
The Provincial President exhorted party workers to fan out in their areas and continue to work as a bridge between the people and the government in seeking redressal to their problems. He said National Conference will carry forward the mission chartered out by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, which stands for seeking a dignified life for the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Expressing his desire to work for the betterment of the people as per the vision of Sher-e-Kashmir, Choudhry Shafiq said that he feels honoured to join the Caravan of dedicated National Conference cadre. Mr Rana and the senior leaders profusely garlanded him on his joining the party.
Among others, present on the occasion included, State Vice President Rattan Lal Gupta, Mr Gurdeep Singh Sasan, Mr Jugal Mahajan, Provincial President NC Women Wing Mrs Vijay Laxmi Dutta, former legislator Satpal Lakhotra , Mr. Ayub Malik, Mr Anil Dhar, S. Taranjeet Singh Tony, Mr Iqbal Wani, Mr Pradeep Bali, Mrs Rashida Begum, Mr Pankaj Kohli, Rohit Bali, .
Later, Choudhry Shafiq, along with senior National Conference leader Mr Anil Dhar, called on the party President and Union Minister for Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Mr Omar Abdullah. The two leaders greeted him on joining the party. Choudhry Shafiq has grown up in a political family, with his father Choudhry Mohammed Hussain remaining a legislator for nearly 33 years.
