"Mauritius was made first, and then heaven; and heaven was copied after Mauritius", the world-known American writer Mark Twain once said. The famous writer was not wrong.
Like a pearl in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius can hardly be found in a world map.
Nestled up alongside east Africa, its white sands and blue seas are one of the true gems of the Seventh Sea. Bizarre mountain peaks, magnificent palm-fringed beaches, colourful coral reefs, shimmering azure lagoons, generous sun and wind the whole year where even the roadside weeds bloom like tropical gardens…What could be a better description of paradise?

Mauritius a pearl in the Indian Ocean……..The beauty of Mauritius has been sung by poets, painters, writers and sundry visitors ever since man landed on theisland. The most quoted compliment comes from MARK TWAIN, the famous American author, who wrote in 1897:You gather the idea that Mauritius was made first, and then Heaven, And that Heaven was copied after Mauritius.Of volcanic origin and generally sheltered by barriers of coral reefs forming natural, safe, crystal clear lagoons, Mauritius has long been a dream destination. On 12 March 1968, Mauritius became Independent. Republic Day was proclaimed on 12 March 1992. Mauritius is one of a chain of islands produced by a volcanic hotspot that now rests beneath the French isle of Reunion.
Most people in Mauritius are bilingual and are equally fluent in English
and French. Creole and French are the main languages in the everyday environment and several oriental languages are also spoken.
Mauritius is a blend of diverse cultures and religions.
