No wonder the BSP has come to power in the UP by garnering the votes of not only the dalits but also other upper castes, a factor which has made the Utaar Pradesh Chief Minister Ms.Mayavati more amenable and flexible. It actually reflected in the formation of her cabinet itself,by accomodating not only the dalits but also the other upper castes, offering them cabinet berths, including to that of a brahmin. That was her plan and strategy. To gain vote and rule.Hailing from backward caste, she took the reality into account and realised that after all her ministry is not meant for dalits alone but meant for all people.Hence, she also canvassed for reservation for the economically poor forward class people also.
Of late, Ms.Mayavati has become more flexible and statesman-like in her administration also. When she came to power, she banned elections in the colleges and universities. Her ban provoked outburst among the student community and it was exploited by SP.Due to the ensuing student agitation, a student died and another person got immolated himself.Taking stock of the situation and bowing to the pressures of SP party and in particular Mulayam Singh Yadav, Ms.Mayavati, lifted the ban and ordered for elections in the colleges and Universities by issuing them some guidelines for conducting the elections.
Similarly, a few weeks ago, she withdrew the ministerial status conferred on the cabinet secretary, making him mere an official , accepting the demand of Mulayam Singh.
Likewise Ms.Mayavati also withdrew the Government order allowing contract farming, bowing to the pressure from the opposition.
Ms.Mayavati, though allowed the Reliance Stores to be opened at UP, later on ordered them for their closure and of course Reliance got themselves packed up permanently from UP.
Ms.Mayavati, eventhough she is a chief minister of UP, hailing from BSP, she belongs to UP and meant for its welfare. She has realised it and has truly become democratic.Congrats to Ms.Mayavati.
