While Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Hillary Clinton of New York is still in the game and refuses to drop out, there is a strong indication that co-frontrunner Senator Barack Obama of Illinois will be the inevitable Democratic nominee. Recently, Obama has started to focus his attacks on presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona.
Obama addressed the attacks he had received from Republicans. While the DNC has unleashed attack ads against McCain, the RNC has done the same thing with Obama. At an RNC donor event back in February, the RNC outlined a five-point attack strategy against Obama.
In that regard, Obama addressed the attacks about him coming from the Republicans. He said that the election should be about the issues and not about the personalities. Obama also explained that change does not happen from the top. He gave the implication that change will happen from the bottom up.
Obama’s supporters even took the chance to attack McCain. Democratic Representative Peter DeFazio of Oregon called McCain’s Straight Talk Express the “Trojan Horse Express.” DeFazio compared McCain’s public policy as being similar to that of current President George W. Bush.
He said that McCain does not know anything about the US economy. DeFazio listed about the Wall Street mortgage meltdown, Bear Stearns, and many other issues affecting the economy. In a recent CNN News/Research Opinion Corp. poll, the economy has been the number one issue on the minds of most Americans. Iraq came in a very distant second.
McCain’s main platform has been Iraq. He had said that Iraq will either make or break his candidacy.
