Mathematically speaking, Mike Huckabee does not have a chance to beat John McCain for the Republican nomination. Statistically speaking, it would be impossible for Huckabee to beat McCain in the GOP race. However, John McCain said is not dismissing Mike Huckabee as a threat to his candidacy.
“Gov Huckabee is still in the race, and he is a viable candidate and I’m sure will continue to show strength and that’s why we’re moving forward with our campaigning,” McCain said in regard to Huckabee.
He would add: “Obviously we are pleased with the events that have happened, but we still have a ways to go and we’ll continue campaigning.”
However, McCain declined to comment on who he might think of picking as a potential running mate. He has dismissed the notion of that he must pick someone from the South to balance the ticket.
“From a practical standpoint, I think former President Clinton and former Vice President Gore showed us you don’t have to be regionally different,” McCain stated. He added: “I think America is such that, quote, ‘regional differences’ don’t play the role that maybe they did in earlier times.”
While Huckabee is still in the GOP race, but the path for McCain has been cleared when Mitt Romney had dropped his bid for the GOP nomination for US President. Statistically, Huckabee must win over 80 percent of the remaining contests if he wants to get the GOP nomination.
Huckabee has 181 delegates which is 533 less than McCain.
