Three days before the crucial Republican primary in Florida, Governor Charlie Crist has given his endorsement to Republican candidate John McCain. He had praised McCain as being a true hero to America.
Crist added at a St. Petersburg campaign appearance saying: “After thinking about it as much as I have, I don’t think anybody would do better than the man who stands next to me, Sen. John McCain.”
The endorsement from Charlie Crist is the second high-profile endorsement for John McCain in many days. Currently, McCain is in a tight battle against Mitt Romney for the win in Florida.
Whoever wins the Florida GOP primary next week will capture all 57 delegates. This will be vital towards Super Tuesday.
Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani had also sought out the endorsement from Charlie Crist. But it is still unknown what the two endorsements will have on McCain’s campaign.
McCain had campaigned for Crist when he ran for governor in 2006. Giuliani had too campaigned for Crist while Romney would deliver a $1 million check while as the chairman of the Republican Governors Association.
So far, Crist is seen as a moderate Republican. Crist has supported and championed efforts to curb climate change. He was also praised by former US President Bill Clinton for his efforts in restoring voting rights of felons who had completed their sentences.
Crist had also pushed for a law to be passed that requires a paper trail in state elections. This is a measure that bans electronic voting machines.
