McCain to Obama: 10 Joint Town Hall Meetings From Now Until August

It is official that Senator Barack Obama of Illinois has secured more than enough delegates to clinch the Democratic nomination. Many within the Democratic and Republican Parties were ready to acknowledge Obama as the eventual Democratic nominee. However, Senator Hillary Clinton of New York has yet to concede victory to Obama.

However, presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona did not hesitate. Instead of congratulating Obama for his victory, McCain went right on the offensive. Then again, this could be McCain’s way of “congratulating” Obama. McCain attacked Obama right off the bat.

McCain has now played off of Obama’s message of “change.” While Obama calls himself the candidate of “change,” McCain calls himself the candidate of “right change.” As Clinton struggled to keep her presidential hopes afloat, Obama and McCain have continuously squared off against one another. McCain called Obama the candidate of “wrong change.”

Today, McCain sent Obama a letter requesting 10 joint town hall meetings from June 12th until June 24th. June 24th is the date where the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, is set to take place.

In the past, Obama said that he would love to debate with McCain on various issues.

What a welcome change it would be were presidential candidates in our time to treat each other and the people they seek to lead with respect and courtesy as they discussed great issues of the day, without the empty sound bites and media-filtered exchanges that dominate our elections,” said McCain’s letter.

So far, Obama is receptive towards the suggestion. The Obama campaign wants a few changes. The two stipulations are: less structure and lengthier town hall meetings. But, McCain is not too thrilled with the suggestion.

Still McCain requested joint town hall meetings and Obama is open to them. If there are joint town hall meetings from the 12th of June to the 24th of August, this should prove to be interesting.
