This month, John McCain has raised over $7 million. In three weeks, $7 million was collected. It would be more than McCain took in during a three-month period back in 2007.
According to spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker, the GOP presidential hopeful has expanded his contributor base to 110,000 donors along with raising $3 million online. Between July 1 and September 30, John McCain raised $5.7 million.
McCain’s campaign said that he had also exceeded that period’s fundraising during the fourth quarter of 2007. However, Hazbelbaker said that the campaign has stopped raising money for the general election.
These numbers reveal a turn of fortune that proves to be positive for John McCain and reflect his successes in New Hampshire and South Carolina. McCain is competing against Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani to win the state of Florida in the upcoming GOP primary.
According to polls, John McCain is tied with Mitt Romney.
Mitt Romney who is a multimillionaire has put his own money into his campaign. He is the one candidate able to compete financially.
With the new money raised, McCain is on solid ground. Giuliani and Huckabee had to cut back on spending as senior staffers are working without pay.
“People are excited about McCain’s momentum, and that’s translated into a significant bump in our fundraising,” said Hazelbaker. Hazelbaker adds: “They’re rallying to John McCain because they recognize that he’s the candidate who will lead the Republican Party to victory in November.”
