Meals and Treat Ideas for Special Occasions

One of the best things about getting all of your friends and family together is the food. Whether it is a potluck, ordered out, or mom is hard at work in the kitchen all day, all of the best memories are made and relieved when everyone comes together to sit down and eat the meal. Old favorites are just as good as new traditions, so don’t be afraid to mix it up at your next special occasion with a new meal or treat idea. For all you know, it could become the new tradition. Chances are, you already know what your loved ones expect, so all you have to do is put your own twist on it.

Anniversary Parties

Anniversaries are a big deal, so the meal should reflect that. Choose classic appetizers and finger foods to start off like crab cakes, deviled eggs, salads, and dips are great options. Mediterranean-inspired dips with veggies will keep it tasty and healthy.  For the main, something hearty is recommended, like a turkey meatball casserole. Even better, opt for something that is reminiscent of the relationship. Baked potatoes, stuffed baked tomatoes, and roasted cauliflower are all good choices for a side dish. Fresh fruits are a great dessert and palate cleanser, while a variety of mini pastries will please the whole crowd.

Grazing Tables

This is a fairly new concept for weddings, but is becoming wildly popular. These setups will have a variety of items that are not only enjoyable on their own, but also can be paired up—like cold meats, cheeses, dips, breads, crackers, antipasto, salads, and fruits. Another idea is to set up the ingredients for guests to make their own bruschetta or crostinis. Laying the food out like this will also create a great visual that can add to the overall aesthetic of the party or get together. Even opt to serve the foods on glass or porcelain platters, marble slabs, and rustic cutting boards of varying sizes.

Valentine’s Treats

Food is one of the ultimate ways to show someone that you love them—what is better than working hard on something that will let someone feel your love when they eat it? If you’re doing a Valentine’s Day breakfast, you can do something like fresh brioche French toast with mixed berries. For lunch or dinner, try your hand at pizza making and go for a heart shaped pizza with your love’s favorite toppings. If they have a sweet tooth, hit the spot with red velvet cake bites or dark chocolate cherry brownies. Chocolate covered strawberries are overrated anyway.

Romantic Desserts

Nothing says romance like chocolate, and there are so many options for romantic desserts with chocolate. A creative take on s’mores puts raspberries in with the marshmallow, chocolate covered strawberries are classic, and espresso truffles will give the right kick. If chocolate isn’t your thing, opt for something like Tiramisu, a cherry trifle, or an orange souffle. A simple chocolate fondue is always a good idea—with the make-as-you-eat notion. Pound cake, dried fruits, and graham crackers are classic fondue dippers.

For Those With Allergies

Peanut allergies are ever-present but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be swapped for something comparable. SunButter is a nut, peanut, tree nut, gluten, egg, and dairy free product that is processed in a facility that is strictly nut-free. Peanut butter is a staple for quick and filling snacks, so never miss out again. Chocolate covered bananas don’t sound super exciting, but cover them in toasted coconut, pomegranates, cinnamon, or sprinkles to have a quick and sweet snack that is okay by many allergies.

“Make Your Own” Bars

Nachos, tacos, popcorn, hot dogs—pretty much anything. You won’t have to worry about pleasing everyone with your meal plan since it can be customized by each individual. They can choose as many or as little toppings at they would like. This also is great for an event in which grazing or making a plate and sitting down would be okay. Ice cream is also a great food that can be customized to anyone’s liking and would be appropriate for an event that is mid-day or even a little later in the day, especially in the spring when it gets warm.
