Meat and milk products from cloned animals awaits market in the Philippines

After the successful cloning of Dolly the sheep in 1996, scientist around the world have been busy in their laboratories doing enough time to make their experiments realized. Two years after Dolly, cows were also cloned in 1998 followed by pigs in 2000. Since then agricultural scientists never looked back and now their cloned animals are awaiting approval from the authorities around the world.

The US Food and Drugs Administration are upbeat on the meat and milk products from cloned animals and within this week a decision will be made. Initially, US scientists have concluded that meat and milk products from cloned animals are safe to eat and drink. Any approval from the USFDA will make it automatic endorsement and probably enter the food supply around the world.

Recently the Philippine government had floated the idea to allow meat and milk products from cloned animals produced in the US to enter the country. But the possible entry into the local markets of said food products prompted sharp reactions from the food experts, the academe and from the environmental activists.

Since the country is affected by the oil price hike in the world market, basic commodities and other food products like meat and dairy had gone up in prices. This situation caused alarm to the government and the practical solution is to accept and let the entry of meat and milk products from cloned animals to be lined up in the food supply.

Maybe the opposition will die down once the cloning technology proves to be safe and in some way or the other, help alleviate poverty and hunger in the world. The US is not that busy about politics, about Iraq, Obama etc…They’re busy about foods to be shared to the world.
