Srinagar, May 12 (Scoop News) –Saying that media is the pillar of democracy, Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment Abdul Gani Malik today advocated freedom of press but said it should function impartially after releasing a novel “Dehshat Zaadi” authored by renowned broadcaster and journalist Naeema Ahmad Mehjoor here at an impressive function held at Hotel Lala Rukh today. “We should not shy away to accept the truth”, he added.
Referring to the policy of transparency and accountability adopted by present government, Malik said several vital decisions were taken by state government including Right to Information, Public Service Guarantee Act and many other Acts favouring people at the grass root level.
Complimenting Naeema Ahmad for authoring the book released today, the Minister said that truth speaking authors should be encouraged and appreciated at all levels. He said Naeema does need any introduction as she has spent several years in the broadcasting world both at National and International level, especially British Broadcasting Service and has gained tremendous popularity as a courageous and brave broadcaster.
Stressing for developing enthusiasm in book reading, Malik said that book is a best friend of a person and this trend should gain momentum among youth and general public.
The Minister congratulated the organizers of the function viz Jinab Noor Shah, President Urdu Academy, Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri Patron and Javed Matji, Secretary and also Mehjoor foundation Secretary Ashfaq Lone for holding the event efficiently.
