Reasi,March 07, (Scoop News)-To celebrate International Women’s Day, the district SVEEP Cell, Reasi organized “Mega Women Electoral Conference” chaired by Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Sushma Chauhan here today.
Over 1500 women attended the conference included female teachers, anganwadi workers/helpers, ASHA workers, panches, and women from all the blocks of the district.
Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi-Sujit Kumar, Programme Officer ICDS Nawab Din, PO DRDA, Dr Jagdish Mehra, DSWO,Rafiq Ahmad, ARTO, Rajesh Gupta, AD, Megha Bagoia, AD Employment, Sulakshana Thakur, DIO, Parvinder Kour, CEO, Ashok Sanyal were also present on the occasion.
An electoral literacy exhibition was also inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner accompanied by SSP Reasi on this occasion. Photographs of SVEEP Campaign from across the district along with electoral literacy material of ECI, locally developed electoral literacy material in vernacular languages, photographs of district icons, achievements of electoral awareness, cartoons and caricatures were displayed in the exhibition.
Terming women as backbone of society, DC said democracy needs women in order to be truly democratic, and women need democracy if they are to change the systems and laws that preclude them, and preclude society as a whole, from attaining equality. This can be possible only through their active participation in electoral process. She congratulated women for their overwhelming participation in the Parliamentary-2014 Election and Assembly Elections across the district.
