Mehbooba disobeys Speaker’s direction;Speaker adjourns JK Assembly Sine-die

 

 

 Srinagar,September 1 (Vijay Kumar) -Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone asked leader of opposition Mrs Mehbooba Mufti to confine her speech with regard to budget session. However, she disobeyed the Speaker’s direction by raising irrelevant issues in an effort to play to Press Gallery.

 

            The PDP leader instead of confining her speech on the budget session tried to score political points without conforming to parliamentary practice of making observation on the House proceedings during the conclusion of budget session. Later, Mrs Mehbooba Mufti instead of paying any heed to the parliamentary ethics walked out of the House along with her party members after defying direction of the chair.

 

Meanwhile, J&K Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone today adjourned the current Assembly sine-die.

Earlier, winding up the discussion on proceedings of the House during 36 days long session, the Speaker thanked all the Ministers of the State government for replying the questions raised by Legislators very patiently and politely. He also expressed gratitude to the legislators for highlighting the issues of people in the House and extending their cooperation in conducting the proceeding of the House smoothly.

Appreciating the work done by various departments in providing reply to the questions regularly, Mr. Lone thanked Chief Secretary, Financial Commissioners, General Administration Department, State Information Department, Hospitality and Protocol Department, Tourism, PHE, PDD, Police, Government Press, Fire and Emergency Services, Estates, Municipality, Health Department and employees of Assembly secretariat for their tireless efforts in making the session a success.

He said the print and electronic media has given adequate coverage to the proceedings of the House for which they deserve appreciation.

Giving details of Business during the session, Speaker said that 958 questions including 545 starred and 413 un-starred, 860 written replies, 318 supplementaries, three short notice questions, 8 Government Bills, 139 Calling Attention Notices, 2727 cut motions and 101 Private Members Resolutions were raised during the session. He said during the session 11.12 hours time was given to NC, 6.4 hours to Congress, 6.9 hours to BJP, 15.30 hours to PDD, 4 hours to JKNPP, 8 hours to CPI (M), 1.18 hours to Jammu State Morcha (JSM) and 1.24 hours to Independent members and others.

He said that the total time spent during the session was 37.25 hours. He said the total issues raised were 333.

Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand, Finance Minister, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather and members of various political parties including Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Mr. B. S. Mankotia, Mr. M. Y. Tarigami, Er. Abdul Rashid, Mr. Ashwani Kumar, Ch. Aslam and Mr. Vaqar Rasool also spoke on the occasion and thanked employees of Assembly Secretariat and media persons for their cooperation in running the session smoothly. They also appreciated the role of Speaker in concluding the proceedings transparently.
