Jammu, October 13, (Scoop News)- Urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come true on his promise of following Vajpayee Doctrine on Kashmir, president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today said that there was no indication yet that BJP Government was serious on its election manifesto on Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a function to welcome Congress leaders namely Vinod Mahajan and Nitish Mahajan into party fold, PDP president said that former Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee had laid a solid foundation for resolving Kashmir issue and problems of the State. She added that one had hoped that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi with a decisive mandate would carry forward the mission but it seems that things are not moving in that directions.
She said that the cease-fire between India and Pakistan was a result of Vajpayee’s vision and statesmanship and it came at a time when the two countries were in a war like confrontation. She recalled that Atal Behari Vajpayee, exhibited his statesmanship, rose above petty consideration, responded to the over-whelming yearning for the peace among people of the State and extended his hands of friendship to Pakistan even in the backdrop of Kargil and Parliament attack.
“Rescuing the cease-fire and taking forward the resolution process would be much easier now but any drift could result in wasting the hard labour” she cautioned and said that BJP as ruling party of the country has to prove its intention and ability by following Vajpayee’s legacy that could ensure that our country live in peace with itself with no section of the society feel marginalized and also help establishing a friendly and amicable relations with neighbours.
She said that Jammu and Kashmir is passing through a crucial juncture after unprecedented floods and there is need to initiate comprehensive steps to rehabilitate flood affected people.
“The situation necessitate that instead of indulge into firing and shelling on each other both India and Pakistan should concentrate on solving basic problems being faced by people in both sides”, she said and recalled how residents of Jammu and Kashmir had faced worst situation during hostility between India and Pakistan before announcement of cease-fire on the borders in the year 2003.
Common people, particularly those living in the border areas, have been facing the brunt of shelling on the borders and have been frequently uprooted from their hearths and homes”, she regretted and added that recent skirmishes on the borders have inflicted more severe physical and psychological injuries to the border inhabitants because cease fire announced in 2003 was longest sustaining ceasefire and people have started living peaceful permanent settled lives on the borders.
Reiterating resolve of her party to establish accountable, transparent and corruption free system in the State to provide equal opportunity of growth to every individual, Mehbooba Mufti reminded that PDP led coalition regime had carved out a path of peace and equitable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
