Jammu, February 16, (Scoop News)- Congratulating the star footballer, Mehraj Uddin Wadoo for wining the ‘Best Indian Footballer’ award, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti Sunday said it is a matter of pride and real moment of joy for the entire state.
Terming Mehraj as an inspiration, real hero for the youth she said the fact that he led the ‘Mohammadan Sporting Club’ to victory in Indian Football League (IFL) adds to his feeling of accomplishment. She said Mehraj’s life is an outstanding success story, which will inspire others in the state. She said he has been playing with distinction and has made a significant mark both at national and international levels by the dent of his own efforts and talent.
Mehbooba said there is no dearth of talent in the state and if given chance, encouragement and proper platform to grow, our youth can compete with best in the world. Giving example of the Valley cricket star, Parvez Rasool, who was recently given his contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mehbooba said it is heartening to see that young people are coming out strongly and making it big in any form of the support and other areas of work.
She said the youth of state, particularly of Kashmir have been facing tremendous problems in finding a proper place for themselves and all they need to be provided appropriate facilities and safe environment, so that they can use their creative talent in making their lives better.
Mehbooba said football, which is called the traditional sport of the state, has not seen any considerable growth over some years now, besides getting huge response from the youngsters. She said the Valley has the distinction of producing outstanding footballers in the past, but they didn’t get proper support to move forward. She said the beautiful game needs to be promoted along side with other sports, and there is need of having proper infrastructure in place, so that youngsters don’t face problems in finding their potential. She said the state will have to come up with concrete steps for providing incentives for outstanding achievers like Mehraj and Parvez.
She said the lives of the people like Mehraj and Parvez, who have bravely challenged the hardships and have made name for themselves by their own talent and hard work, will definitely serve as an inspiration for others to make it big not just in sports but in other fields and professions.
