22nd September 2012: World Vision India’s Chennai Bal Jyoti Project, which works with children living on the streets of children, today opened a three-day Photography exhibition “Mele Vaanam, Keelae Bhoomi” in Chennai at Art House located in Kasturi Rangan Road in Alwarpet.
Twenty children living on the streets of Chennai, where the Chennai Bal jyoti Project works, brought out their issues and situation which they face in their day to day life, captured on camera. The well portrayed exhibition brings out the realities of life on the streets beautifully captured by the children, along with a small note in Tamil about themselves and the place they live in.
The children were trained on handling a camera and the nuances of photography under able guidance of renowned professional photographer, Mr. R. Srinivasan, Director of OHO Productions. This opportunity was an avenue for the children to capture on camera their life as it unfolds around them every day.
The exhibition was inaugurated by eminent Film Editor and Director Mr. Lenin.
The photos have also been compiled as a book entitled “Mele Vaanam, Keelae Bhoomi.” Releasing the book, Dr. Jayakumar Christian, National Director – World Vision India, said “For us at World Vision India , child participation is really important. This is an opportunity for us to listen to their voices. These beautiful works of art are not just images but the real voices of children. ”
Mr. Vidyasagar, Director – Child Protection, UNICEF, received the first copy of the book from Dr. Jayakumar Christian.
All the children were given a copy of the book and also awarded certificates by Mr. Anand Joshua, Head-India Marketing, World Vision India and Ms. Christabel Kalaiselvi, Group Director, Field Ministries, World Vision India.
