Melissa Lavender, a teacher in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan’s South Lake High School, was arraigned in court today on charges that she had sexual activity with two current male students.
Melissa Lavender, 33, teaches culinary arts at South Lake High School. Her alleged sexual encounter with two male students, aged 16 and 17, took place in late June aboard a boat belonging to a South Lake High School parent. Lavender has been suspended from her teaching position since July 29 when witnesses reported the alleged crime to police.
Lavender was released on $25,000 personal bond under the condition that she not go near any unrelated minor without supervision, that she not enter South Lake High School and that she be subject to four random breathalyzer tests per day.
Melissa Lavender faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree. She will appear again in court on August 26, 2008. Lavender is married with two young children.
