Mesmerising Umaid Bhavan and Jaswant Thada.
Umaid Bhavan Palace is the one of unique tourist attraction of Jodhpur, the suncity, built by Umaid Singh in 20th century. Whenever tourists from far and wide, east and west come to Rajasthan and thereafter Jodhpur, they visit Umaid Bhavan Palace at least once. Part of the palace had been converted into hotel and museum. Over one million square feet of finest marble is used to construct the palace which is also called Chittar Sandstone. The palace is named after its builder, Maharaja Umaid Singh, (1876 – 1947). He was also the president of British Royal Institute of Architects. In 1977, the heritage hotel and museum became functional within the palace. There are 347 rooms, out of which 98 are air-conditioned and have the amenities of a five-star hotel. Jaswant Thada is another tourist attraction built on the left of Mehrangarh Fort Complex. It can be witnessed from the walls and rooftops of the Mehrangarh Fort. It is a cenotaph built in white marble. It was built to commemorate Maharaja Jaswant Singh. Some of the portraits of the ancient rulers of Jodhpur fascinate the viewers. The entire monument is built on carved sheets of marble. Visitors should visit the great sites in the winter, that is January and February.
