Mesmerizing vocal recital at SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2012

 

Jammu, February 11 (Scoop News) –   The 7th Annual SaMaPa Aalap Festival presented by the Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa) in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Deptt. of Tourism, J&K, witnessed mesmerizing vocal recital by Nitin Sharma on the 15th Day of the festival at SNS Vidhya Mandir, DBN School, Talab Tillo, Jammu.

 

Nitin Sharma, a young vocalist from Delhi, presented Raga Charukeshi. The first composition, Bada Khayal, was set to Ektaal “Re Man Kaise Rijhaoun Morey Piya Ke Kachu Khabar Na Pao”, followed by “Aaj Morey Bhaag Jagey Re” in Madhyalaya Teentaal. He also presented a Thumri “Diwana Kiya Shyam, Kya Jadoo Dala” in Mishra Kirwani. He concluded his recital with a Bhajan “Mai To Saawarey Ke Sang”. The listeners were captivated with his performance. While explaining the subtle technicalities, he also made the young children sing with him. He was ably accompanied by Sachin Sharma on Tabla, Abid Hussain on Sarangi, Ustad Sajjad Ahmed on Harmonium and Poushali Dutta on Tanpura who created a spellbinding effect.  

 

Eminent Santoor Maestro & Music Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori spoke to the children focusing their attention on the rich music and culture of the country. He said every child needs to be musically oriented and carry forward the rich legacy of the State and Country as their duty and responsibility. Recognizing the talent of the youth, he said that he’ll extend all possible help to provide better avenues to children in the field of music and culture. He thanked the media for its constant support in reaching out to the mass.  He also thanked SMVDSB and J&K Tourism in making the festival a grand success. The festival has now reached its last phase with the concluding ceremony at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Spiritual Growth Centre at Katra on Monday, the 13th of February 2012.

 

The concert was attended by a large number of students and staff of the School including Dr. Rama Kant Dubey, Advisor SNS, Rajinder Kumar, Manager Trustee Badrinath Educational Trust, I.D. Soni, Commissioner Scouts and Guide, J&K Govt., Vocalist Sunaina Kaul from IMFA, and others. SaMaPa Jammu coordinator Jagdeep Kaur was also present on the occasion. Savita Bakshi, Addl. Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was the Chief Guest on the Occasion. She appreciated SaMaPa’s path breaking work in reviving the cultural scenario of the State of J&K. Earlier, Rama Kant Dubey greeted the renowned musicians and Rajendra Kumar welcomed the guests. Neelam Sabharwal, Principal DBN, presented the vote of thanks and mementos to the guests and the artists. She thanked SaMaPa, music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori and Abhay Rustum Sopori for their initiatives to enlighten the younger generation with the traditional arts giving live precious moments to cherish as the students grow. She said SaMaPa Aalap has been significant in revolutionizing the cultural scenario and the festival acts like a musical balm creating cultural awareness and new avenues for the younger generation to come forward with career in fields like arts and music, and it’s a privilege for DBN to be a part of this SaMaPa movement.
