In the last few days that prelude to the Michigan Republican primary, candidate Mitt Romney who is the former governor of Massachusetts had promised the voters in Michigan that he would bring jobs back to the state. He had also issued a promise to voters to bring back vitality to the automotive industry in his first 100 days in office as United States President.
Romney’s message about the economy had paid off as he won a much needed victory for his campaign.
“Tonight proves that you can’t tell an American that there’s something they just can’t do because Americans can do whatever they set their hearts on,” Romney had said to a room of cheering supporters.
He added: “And tonight is a victory of optimism over Washinton-style pessimism.”
Romney basked in his first major GOP victory with his wife Ann at his side. This was a much needed win after disappointing losses in both Iowa and New Hampshire. Iowa’s win was given to Mike Huckabee while New Hampshire’s win was given to John McCain.
Many were ready to write an obituary for Romney’s candidacy. But with the victory in his birthplace and delegate-plentiful state of Michigan, Romney is back in the race and prepares for the South Carolina primary this Saturday.
“Tonight we are celebrating here in Michigan, I’ve got to tell you that,” he said. Romney added with a question and answer: “Guess what they’re doing in Washington? They’re worrying because they release-the lobbyists and the politicians realize-that America now understands that Washington is broken and we’re going to do something about it.”
Tonight’s victory was a first place trophy to be cherished in the case of Mitt Romney.
While Mike Huckabee and John McCain fight for South Carolina, Mitt Romney aims to win Nevada. However, it does not mean that Romney is going to give up South Carolina.
“Let’s take this campaign to South Carolina and Nevada and Florida and all over the country,” Romney said. He then finished with: “Let’s take it all the way to the White House.”
It would look as the victory Michigan has restored confidence in the Romney camp. This looks as if Romney has placed his sword on the ground.
