Military coup looms in Nigeria
Abiodun Alani Olugbenro is a Bishop and founder of Mountain of Solutions Ministries International, Lagos. He is a radical cleric and also the Lagos state chairman of African Liberation Party.
In this interview with EMMANUEL UDOM, Olugbenro spoke on the implications of some churches and pastors hiring OPC members or private security guards to keep tap on their churches premises during services, why Christians in Nigeria should not hit back on the Boko Haram set, the looming coup, due to the present insecurity in Nigeria and the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
Sir, some churches and pastors have resorted to hiring members of the Oodua Peoples Congress OPC or private security guards to keep tap on their churches. What is your take on this?
Yes, we are all aware of the insecurity in the land, due to the activities of the Boko Haram sect. Members of this sect have in the last three years bombed churches and killed innocent persons in their thousands in the northern parts of the country.
Apart from this, there are cases of kidnapping, robbery, fraud, killing and other criminal activities being recorded from various parts of the country.
Therefore, pastors and churches have every right to employ the services of OPC or private security guards to guard their church premises. But, let me be frank and honest with you, the ultimate security comes from God.
Therefore, no matter the number of OPC member a pastor hires, if trouble makers want to deal with hi, they will still do so.
Should Christians hit back at Boko Haram
Boko Haram is not a religious, but politically motivated issue. Yes, religion in Nigeria is a highly sensitive issue. But, I do not think Christians should retaliate or go on a revenge mission.
The president Goodluck Jonathan regime is too weak and I dare say, if this Boko Haram business is allowed to continue, unchecked, it could lead to a situation where the military may over throw the government.
So, the present regime should crush this insurgency called Boko Haram, even as Christians should continue to pray and seek dialogue as a way of solving the present challenges facing the country.
But, do you see a situation where Nigeria could breaku?
As I said earlier, our present realities show that the country is not at peace. Look everywhere, what you see is insecurity, joblessness, lack of power, lack of water, poverty, etc. The Jonathan regime has done virtually nothing to tackle some of these challenges.
I foresee a revolution if the country continues in this direction. If President Goodluck Jonathan cannot perform, he should resign honorably. Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom state is a performer as well as some other governors.
Former governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel performed creditably in delivering democracy dividends to the people of the state. Today, the state is in a mess, as the present governor has done virtually nothing.
Therefore, the drift should be arrested, or the possibility of the country breaking up could not be guarantee.
What is your take on the Lawan, Otedola bribe scandal?
It simply shows that we should not judge people by their words, but by their deeds. Lawan used to be called Mr. Integrity. Today, his so called integrity is at stake.
