Millions of Filipinos are celebrating the victory of popular Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao after he defeated Oscar de la Hoya in a boxing match held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada.
Pacquiao won the match when Oscar de la Hoya quit at the end of eighth round. Pacquiao dominated the fight starting with the second round. One of the referees gave the first round to de la Hoya.. The two other referees gave the rest to Pacquiao. It was a bloody encounter as Pacquiao delivered heavy punches that left the eyes of de la Hoya almost closed and bloody.
Back in the Philippines, millions of Filipinos celebrated Pacquiao’s victory by shouting on top of their voices, street dancing and drinking sprees among families and friends.
Days before the scheduled fight, some local government units all over the country have installed giant screens in public buildings and sports complexes in order to let the residents watch the fight live and direct from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Majority of Filipinos remained glued to their television sets for the duration of the fight. Even the shopping malls and eating places temporarily stopped serving their customers to watch the fight.
In most cities in metro manila, the streets were almost deserted with just a few public vehicles plying their routes. The Manila Police department reported zero crime for the entire duration of the fight. Other cities in metro manila and elsewhere in the country also reported no crime committed. Police manning the stations said that even common criminals and insurgents have declared a crime holiday just to watch the boxing fight. I
n the meantime, millions of Filipino boxing fans are awaiting the homecoming of Manny Pacquiao. Welcome ceremonies are normally done in metro manila with a victory parade in key cities culminating in the office of the President of the Philippines in Malacanang Palace.

The Filipino boxing icon is celebrating his 30th birthday on December 17th. Plans are being finalized to prepare for the occasion both in metro manila and in his hometown. The popular boxer will have to go back later to the US to be with his wife who is eight month pregnant
