Miltants shot Hurriyat leader in Kashmir,J&K CM strongly condemned cowardly attack

Srinagar, December 04 (Vijay Kumar) – Militants shot a top leader of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat, Fazal Haq Qureshi, in Srinagar. His condition is said to be critical. The attack comes days after reports of Mirwaiz holding talks with Centre.

Qureshi Who’s a key aide of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq,was the Hizbul Mujahideen’s interlocutor who participated in the failed negotiations with New Delhi after the Hizbul ceasefire in 2000.

Police sources said, Qureshi was shot in his head when he was coming out of the mosque in the downtown of the city.

He was rushed to Soura Medical Institute where he was being operated upon, they said, adding his condition was stated by the doctors as "very critical".

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah condemned the attack on Hurriyat leader Mr. Fazul-Haq Qureshi. He said that it is an attempt to derail the peace process and Talks initiative.

He said that this attack should not come in the way of those who are in the Process of dialogue with Government. Mr. Fazul-Haq Qureshi is a person who always believed in solution of issues through dialogue.

 The Chief Minister hoped the strong determination of the people of J&K to get all their issues resolved through peace process, shall not be diluted by such cowardly incidents. So that befitting and appropriate reply is given to such forces that are against peace and dialogue.
