Jammu,May 30 – For proper rehabilitation of displaced Kashmiri Pandit migrants, Secretary Border Management Ministry of Home Government of India Vinay Kumar on Saturday visited Township of Kashmiri Migrants at Jagti, Nagrota in Jammu and inspected ongoing construction of 4218 flats under Phase-II being completed by September 2009.
Accompanied by Joint Commissioner Border Management Ministry of Home Government of India Sukhandan and Director Kashmir Affairs ,Rajiv Sharma, Kumar was apprised by Relief and Rehabilitation (Migrants) Vinod Koul that under Jagti Phase-II, a total number of 5242 flats are being constructed at a total cost of Rs. 345 crore under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme out of which 1042 flats have been completed at a cost of Rs. 51 crore. He informed that the project would be completed by May 31, 2010 and would be having all civic facilities.
Mr. Koul informed that the township spread over 716 kanals of land is comprising of 176 blocks with 5242 two room tenements, one hospital, three community halls, two schools, 40 parks, 20 MVA power station and water supply scheme besides the township would have internal road connectivity, matador stand, a playing field and vehicle parking facilities. He said that the township is being constructed by MAYTAS RITHWIK (JV), a construction company of Hyderabad.
The Relief Commissioner further disclosed that the township would provide residential facilities for nearly forty thousand souls of Kashmiri Pandit migrants belonging to Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shoipan, Budgam, Baramulla, Bandipore, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Kupwara and other areas of Kashmir valley.
Mr. Koul apprised that the visiting dignitaries presently Kashmiri Pandits families were being provided cash assistance of Rs. 1000 per soul subject to a celing of Rs. 4000 per family per month. He said that these migrant families were also been provided 9 kg ration per month per head besides 2 kg of atta and one kg of sugar.
Interacting with the representatives of MAYTAS RITHWIK (JV) executing agency,. Vinay Kumar asked them to complete the ongoing project within stipulated time frame. He issued instruction for preparation of rehabilitation plan for migrants and especially for improving the living conditions in the camps by way of providing better accommodation and other infrastructure facilities.
Later, the visiting dignitaries held interaction with the representatives of Kashmiri Pandit displaced families and listened their problems at Jammu which include implementation of employment package for unemployed youths of Kashmiri Pandit migrants, enhancement of relief, construction of satellite township in valley, rehabilitation package, simplifying election process, compensation for damaged houses in valley, scholarship to school going children, loan assistance of Rs. 5 lakh out of which Rs. 2.50 lakh shall be subsidy and Rs. 2.50 lakh shall be loan.
