Work on Lawari Rail tunnel would be assumed very soon. Federal Minister Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan Khali.
CHITRAL: The Federal Minister for Communications Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil has said that Luwari Rail Tunnel is a great project of Asia and work on it will resume next month. He said that due to some unavoidable reasons work on it remained suspended for the last three months. The minister said that it will take another year to complete the remaining work on this project, however, we will try to complete it in time. He expressed these views at a briefing during an inspection tour of the project. It should be noted that Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil is the only federal minister who has personally visited the site and inspected the project in details. The project director of the Luwari Tunnel Abdul Samad Khan told the federal minister that it is a 8.5 kilometers long rail tunnel with which a 1.9 kilometer long road tunnel will also be built and its total cost is Rs. 16.5 billion. It was also told that the construction work will be carried out under the supervision of National Highway Authority, and for construction work, services of Korean contractors’ and Austrian and German consultants’ have been hired. This briefing was given to the federal minister at Ziarat which is located near the start of the tunnel. Earlier, at his arrival at Chitral Airport, the federal minister was received by the Member National Assembly Shahzada Mohyyuddine, Member Provincial Assembly NWFP Muhammad Anwar Khan, Haji Ghulam Muhammad, Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Salim Khan, District Nazim Haji Maghfirat Shah, Tehsil Nazim Sartaj Ahmad Khan, District President PPP Zain-ul-abideen, party Secretary General Muhammad Khan Advocate, DCO Chitral Mutassam-billah, CPO Salim Khan Marwat and hundreds of PPP loyalists. On this occasion people raised loud slogans of Dr. Arabab Alamgir Khan Zidabad! and Jeeway Bhutto. During his official visit to Chitral, the federal minister told the media persons that the present democratic government is taking revolutionary measures to bring prosperity to the country and we want to make Chitral a gateway to Central Asia by ensuring timely completion of the Luwari Rail Tunnel so that we could facilitate trade, tourism, industry and agriculture of the country and help it earn considerable foreign exchange and become economically strong. The minister said that nature has bestowed Chitral with large natural resources; there is ample water and other bounties of nature in this area. He said that the government is determined to bring prosperity to the under developed areas including Chitral. After the tour of Luwari Rail Tunnel, the federal minister reached Upper Dir, where DCO Javed Khan Marwat received the federal minister. It is worth to mention here that people of Chitral are continuously demanding for converting Lawari Rail tunnel to Road tunnel and the Federal Minister was also looking desirous for converting rail tunnel to road tunnel.
