Srinagar, April 8, (Scoop News)_ APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Wednesday convened an extraordinary meeting of Hurriyat’s Executive Council members at his residence and discussed in detail the ongoing political situation in Kashmir.
Referring to the recently announced government plan of settling migrant Kashmiri Pandits in separate “township” in Kashmir, it was stated in the meeting that it was a poly to divide Kashmiris on communal lines.
It was also stated that Hurriyat has always welcomed the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits back to their homes and had from time to time made efforts, within its reach, for the return of the Pandits to Kashmir.
The participants said that instead of building a new township, the government should make serious efforts to facilitate the return of Kashmiri Pandit brethren to their native homes and places.
The Hurriyat Conference considers that the unity, brotherhood and solidarity among Kashmir’s irrespective of their religious or ethnic affiliations has always been exemplary as such any ploy to divide them on communal lines would be against the spirit of our centuries old communal harmony and, therefore, would be strongly resisted by the people.
To raise awareness regarding this issue and to thwart this divisive plan of the government, the Hurriyat appealed people to observe state wide strike on Saturday so as to foil the plans of government to vitiate the atmosphere of traditional brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.
The participants also discussed various aspects of the strategy already devised during the recently concluded Hurriyat’s joint meeting of its Executive Council, General Council and Working Committee members, and decided to energize and activate all Hurriyat constituents and committees to bring pace in its activities and expedite the public contact programme so as to strengthen the forum at grass root level.
It was stated in the meeting that Hurriyat was going to take necessary steps to strengthen the movement on political, diplomatic and public contact level as it was important to take the freedom struggle forward.
