Srinagar November 08,(Scoop News)-Addressing his weekly Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, the summer capial, Kashmir’s chief priest and All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader, Mirwaiz Mohammad Umar Farooq said that time has come for Indian leadership to make amends in their attitude and approach and present Kashmir issue in its right perspective before the people of India so that a congenial atmosphere for the resolution of Kashmir issue can be created.
Kashmir is an issue which has a historical background, Umar said adding that it was the congress Government which took Kashmir to United Nations and accepted a formula for the resolution before the United Nations but never acted upon the same.
“We see that successive governments right from 1947 have unleashed a campaign of misinformation and disinformation before the people of India regarding the basic reality of Kashmir issue”, the chief priest said.
Umar said Indian public opinion has been made to believe that Kashmir issue was a creation of Pakistan and because of of cross border terrorism.
He said that it is encouraging that a young and energetic leadership is emerging in India and hoped that this leadership shall develop the courage to address Kashmir issue on the principles of justice rather than use of coercion and military might.
Mirwaiz said that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi came to Kashmir and talked about employment to youth, women’s empowerment and strengthening of Local Bodies and Panchyat Institutions but did not talk a word about the pain of Kashmiris.
Umar said that people of Kashmir were not against development, however, the talk of democracy and Panchyati raj suits well only in free societies.
He said that Rahul Gandhi is an emerging young leader of India who has to play a long innings in politics and said that he believed by accepting historical realities, respecting the aspirations and sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and a resolution based on equality and justice is not found, the dream of violence free and a prosperous Indian sub continent would remain elusive.
