Srinagar, September 26, (Scoop News)_ APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Friday exhorted people to exhibit the same courage and determination to deal with the present catastrophe as they have been doing in past 25 years of oppression .
Emphasizing that Kashmiris were going through the hardest of times due to the Nature’s fury during his weekly congregation at historic Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz said that floods have wrecked unimaginable losses to economy, agriculture, standing crops, horticulture, business, industries and residential houses.
He stated that preliminary reports suggest floods have inflicted 80, 000 crore damages and it would take Kashmir years to recuperate from such heavy losses.
Asking people to have firm faith in Allah, and to ask for his help and guidance in rebuilding Kashmir, APHC leader said that great nations, instead of waiting for help from others, become self reliant and believe in self help.
Deflating the claims of government that it was present on ground to deal with the situation, Mirwaiz pointed out that state machinery had completely collapsed in fact it was dead.
The tall claims made by the state government were just propoganda and hype.
He said that drinking water was absent, there was extreme shortage of food grains and medicines, and high risks of epidemic in flood hit areas.
Mirwaiz said that many areas were still inundated,and dead carcassers scattered all over.
APHC leader said that most relief work was still carried out by local indivduals and voluntary organisations.
Mirwaiz said that Hurriyat has appealed to OIC and the international community to provide a help and assistance to the flood victims.
He added that it is the duty of every Kashmiri expatriates to come forward and formulate a comprehensive mechanism so that their help reaches their brethren in Kashmir in this hour of crisis.
Appealing media to show the true picture of the situation arisen after the flood, Mirwaiz expressed concern over the stock piling and black marketing of essentials by some unscrouplous elements.
In continuation of his visit and providing relief to flood hit areas, he visited NIT Hazrat Bal, and appreciated the efforts of DAK,who have set up a medical camp in the campus.
APHC leader also distributed relief in Nund Reshi colony and Gousia colony of Bemina.
He flayed government for not dewatering these areas so that people could return to their homes.
