Mirwaiz appeals Muslim world for help to overcome devastation caused by floods

Srinagar, September 24, (Scoop News) -Expressing gratitude to the general secretary of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ayad Bin Ahmad Madni, for its continuous support to Kashmir’s ongoing struggle on political, diplomatic and moral levels, APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a letter to OIC has apprised him about the devastation caused by the ravaging floods and appealed them to provide succor to thousands of Kashmiris in this time of urgent need.

Mirwaiz, who has been officially invited to attend the OIC foreign ministers meet by the OIC contact group on Kashmir in view of the ongoing UN general assembly session in America on September 25 and 26,urged the member states of Islamic cooperation to announce a special relief package for the Kashmir flood victims so as to provide them help and rehabilitation.

APHC leader wrote to OIC that local funds were too meager to compensate the losses incurred due to floods.

Quoting economic experts, he stated that damages between 80,000 to 1 lakh crore have been reported in Kashmir, around 20 thousands houses have become inhabitable, infrastructure is in ruins, and crops spread over thousands of heactares of land has been destroyed due to floods.

Appealing the member states of OIC contract group on Kashmir including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Turkey to come forward to help deal with the situation arisen in the aftermath of the ravaging floods, Mirwaiz appealed the OIC general secretary to organize a donor conference of Muslim Countries to pool resources needed for rebuilding Kashmir.

He said that without external aid and support it was not possible to make good the massive losses incurred due to the flood.

Meanwhile, APHC spokesman has said that the Mirwaiz could not attend the OIC summit due to the current flood situation that has wrecked havoc in Kashmir and due to non availblity of travel documents.

Mirwaiz hoped that the Indian state will not hinder international aid from reaching the Kashmiris who are in dire need of it.
