Srinager, Septembert 20: For the first time, Huriyat conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has, asked authorities of the State-controlled Jammu & Kashmir Bank Ltd (JKB) to abandon the traditional usury system and introduce Islamic system of banking.
He asked them to introduce Islamic system of interest-free banking. He expressed concern over the usury system in JKB and said that Muslims were forced to commit sin by paying and taking interest on advances and deposits respectively. "This un-Islamic system has to be jettisoned", Mirwaiz said.
In his weekly sermon at Friday prayers congregation at Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz Umar on Friday asked JKB authorities to abandon the traditional usury system as it was totally forbidden in Islam.
