Srinagar, February 24, (Scoop News)-APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the alarming rise in Swine Flu cases across the length and breadth of the state, making it an epidemic threatening the state.
Expressing concern over inadequate measures undertaken by the Health Department in hospitals and medical centers of the state, he said that a lot more needs to be done in order to prevent and control the spread of the outbreak.
Many people who called on Mirwaiz, expressed anguish and concern over the rising number of affected cases and deaths due to the H1N1 virus. They also registered their disappointment over the approach of the authorities in handling the grim situation especially in terms of taking preventive measures and with regard to the scarcity of medical supplies esp masks, vaccines, medicines etc.
Speaking about the woes of the people APHC leader said, it appears that government has failed to make awareness among the people about the deadly disease and its proper treatment was not being provided to the virus infected patients.
He said instead of using media government was running Swine Flu awareness campaign in public gatherings which has every potential to spread the disease instead of controlling it.
APHC leader said the doctor’s organization, DAK, had already predicted in October last year that there was likelihood of Swine Flu virus would again affect the general population in Kashmir. Despite that, he said government took no steps to combat the disease, adding, now the health department looks extremely confused and frustrated to deal with the crisis.
Urging the authorities to make medicines and N95 masks available in Kashmir, Mirwaiz appealed doctors, pharmacists and medicos to come forward and aware people about the precautionary measures and treatment of the disease.
