Mistaken For A Boar, A Trainee Teacher Shot.

Sarawak,Malaysia;sunday.

A trainee teacher who was mistaken for a wildboar was shot in the head last friday. The incident happened at Kanowit, a riverine town about two hours boatride from the town of Sibu.

The victim who was on vacation, was searching for  snails and jungle vegetables when the incident happened. Known as Tracey anak Baging [or Tracey the daughter of Baging] the victim was supposed to get married a few days after Christmas.

The District Police Chief of Kanowit, ASP Bujang Zainuddin, told the press that they got the report from other villagers at 6.30 that evening. The susupect surrendered a few moments later.

Tracey was accompanied by two cousins that afternoon. Since there was not much to do they decided to scramble along the stony riverbank. The usual route for the villagers was upriver.

Unknown to the girls, the suspect decided to walk along the riverbank to look for small animals that usually forage among the bushes by the river.

It was at one point along the riverbank when two cousins of Tracey decided to slow down. Tracey went up the bank and into the bushes. The suspect, a village headman, then saw some movements among the bushes. Thinking that it is indeed a wildboar, he took aim and pull the trigger.

Upon hearing her cries, the two others accompanying the suspect ran to the bushes and saw the victim groaning. Moments later she was dead.

The suspect is still under remand and will be charged with manslaughter, says the Police.
