US Republican hopeful Mitt Romney had celebrated his victory in Maine who had won 53 percent of the vote. John McCain came in second with Ron Paul coming into third. Mike Huckabee came in at fourth place with only 5 percent.
“I think it’s a harbinger of what you’re going to see on Tuesday,” Romney had said to reporters. He added: “It’s coming kind of late in the process but not really too late.”
This is the first step towards electing the 18 Maine delegates to the Republican National Convention (RNC). The votes were taking place in public schools, fire stations, and town halls across the state of Maine.
“You know that there’ve been seven contests prior to Maine. I won three. Senator McCain won three,” Romney had said celebrating his Maine victory. He added: “With this, that gives me the edge, four to three. I don’t weight them all the same, of course. I’m really pleased nonetheless to have this victory and particularly in a setting where there’s been such a spirited debate among the different campaigns.”
Despite the weather, there was a lot of caucusing taking place throughout the state of Maine.
