St. Louis Cardinals @ Philadelphia Phillies

Another Phillies "Ace" took the mound in game two against the St. Louis Cardinals, this time it was Cliff Lee. The Cardinals countered with Chris Carpenter.

 

In their loss in the first game St. Louis scored three in the first, tonight it was the Phillies turn to score three times in the first. Ryan Howard singled in two and Raul Ibanez also had a single to score Hunter Pence. In the second it was Hunter Pence with the RBI single to make the score 4-0.

St. Louis finally came through in the fourth inning scoring three times. They would have scored the fourth were it not for a good throw to home by Ibanez and Carlos Ruiz holding on to the ball as Jon Jay smashed into Ruiz trying to score. The Cardinals managed to tie the game at four in the sixth inning on a Jon Jay RBI single, and go ahead in the seventh with a Albert Pujols RBI single making the score 5-4.

Cliff Lee had a tough night allowing five runs on twelve hits, walking two with nine K’s. Lee was relieved by Brad Lidge. Lee takes the 5-4 loss.

The Cardinals used a series of pitchers from their bullpen to shut the Phillies down after starter Chris Carpenter was lifted. Chris gave up all the runs the Phillies would score in this game. Octavio Dotel gets the win for the Cardinals and Jason Motte the save.

Philadelphia is 1-1 in the best of five, ten wins from being World Series Champions, with a maximum of seventeen games remaining. Next game is in St. Louis on Tuesday.
