Philadelphia Phillies @ St. Louis Cardinals

The Phillies went to St. Louis for game three in their best of five series and  went one up as the Phillies defeated the Cardinals 3-2.

Cole Hamels started for Philadelphia and gets the win going six scoreless innings allowing five hits, walking three with eight K’s. Vance Worley, Antoinio Bastardo and Brad Lidge all made a relief appearance and Ryan Madson pitched 1.2 innings and gets the save.

The Phillies needed the long ball to win and Ben Francisco provided it with a three run shot in a pinch hit role in the seventh inning. The Phillies only had seven hits but one huge one from Francisco and that is all they needed.

St. Louis ended up with one run on twelve hits, stranding fourteen batters. Jaime Garcia started for the Cardinals and gets the loss. St. Louis faces elimination should  they lose on Wednesday.

The Phillies are up a game at 2-1 in the five game series. They are nine wins from being World Series Champions with a maximum of sixteen games remaining.
