Philadelphia Phillies @ St. Louis Cardinals

There will be a game five between the Cardinals and Phillies. Really did not want to see one but that’s baseball. St. Louis was in a must win situation at home today and answered the bell with a 5-3 win over the Phillies. The five game series is now tied at two games each.

Roy Oswalt got the start for Philadelphia and was spotted a two run lead before he took the mound in the bottom of the first. It was not good enough as the Cardinals fought back and scored five runs on Roy through six innings.

 

Roy gave up the five  runs on six hits walked one and had five K’s. Joe Blanton and Brad Lidge pitched a perfect seventh and eighth for the Phillies in relief. Oswalt gets the loss.

The Philadelphia offense was weak again, getting only seven hits and scoring three runs. Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins had two hits each. The other three hits came from Pence, Gload and Polanco.

Edwin Jackson started for the Cardinals and gets the win. Jason Motte pitched the ninth and gets the save. St. Louis scored their five runs on only six hits.
 

Friday night the Phillies are home and they will have ace Roy Halladay on the mound facing the Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter, should be a great final game.

Philadelphia is on the brink of elimination, they are tied at two games each in the best of five.

They are still nine wins from being World Series Champions with a maximun fifteen games remaining.

 

We Phillies and baseball fans in general  could not ask for much more in an elimination game, two great pitchers in a win or go home scenario.
