WEDNESDAY QUICK HITS
Armando Galarraga wins his first NL start for the Diamondbacks
giving up four runs on five hits in 7 1-3 innings to the Cubs. Ryan
Dempster(0-2) is handed his second loss of the year allowing five runs and ten hits in seven innings. The Diamondbacks collected twelve hits in the win.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are now 4-2 as they downed the Cardinals and win the series 2-1.Kevin Correia is now 2-0 for the Pirates and this outing allowed no runs, five hits, walked two batters and struck out three. Albert Pujols went one for four and is batting .182 for St. Louis, off to a very slow start.
Tampa Bay is still winless as the Angels shut them down 5-1. The AL East champion Rays are still waiting for things to start clicking and that would include some much needed hitting from Manny Ramirez. One for seventeen won’t get it done but Manny says simply "We’ve got plenty of time." Dan Haren was the winning pitcher giving up one run, four hits, walking none with six strikeouts. The Rays(0-5) have lost four of their five games with exactly one run and four hits.
The Mets tried to make it two in a row over Philly but my Phillies said no way and held on to win 10-7. The Phillies had a 7-0 lead and New York fought back to tie it in the top of the fifth. That only held to the bottom of the inning when Philly came back to score two runs, take the lead and eventually the win. Ryan Howard and Ben Francisco homered for the Phillies, in addition Howard was four for four, two runs scored, two RBIs and a triple shy of the cycle. The bullpen saved Blanton after he gave up seven runs in 4 1-3 innings. The rest of the way the relievers gave up two hits, no runs.
Red Sox fans are scratching their heads as the Sox lost again and off to their worst start in fifteen years. The Indians won 8-4 taking a 2-0 lead in the first and never looking back. Asdrubal Cabrera had four RBI in the win.
