THURSDAY QUICK HITS
Boston (0-6) is still winless in 2011 regular season play. The
Red Sox pitchers did well giving up only one run on three hits,
but Boston could get no help from their offense. Cleveland pitcher
Rafael Perez is now 2-0. Chris Perez got his second save of the season, as Cleveland wins 1-0.
Oakland defeated the Blue Jays avoiding a three game sweep by Toronto. The final was 2-1 Oakland as Trevor Cahill claimed his first win of the season, giving up one run on three hits, walked none and had seven K’s. Toronto is now 4-2 and Oakland 2-4 this year.
The New York Yankees held on to beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 as Derek Jeter passed Rogers Hornsby for 33rd place on baseball’s all time hit list. Jeter had two hits and now sits with 2,931 for his career. A.J. Burnett(2-0) got the win giving up two runs on five hits.
Roy Halladay pitched very well as the Phillies beat the New York Mets 11-0.
Halladay pitched seven innings gave up six hits and no runs, walked one and struck out seven. He records his first win of the season, is now 1-0. The Phillies had sixteen hits with Wilson Valdez going four for four scoring three runs and three RBI. The Phils win the series 2-1 and are now 5-1 on the season. The Phillies are in Atlanta Friday, Cliff Lee vs. Hudson, should be a good one!
Tampa is still winless as they dropped their sixth game of the year. Edwin Jackson had thirteen strikeouts, gave up just one run on four hits, for his second win this year. With the White Sox win they are now 4-2. The Tampa Bay Rays (0-6) are off to their worst start ever scoring only one run in five of their losses.
