TUESDAY QUICK HITS
Miguel Cabrerea came up to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning, bases loaded and delivered a walk off single for a Tgers 5-4 win. This is only the second loss of the season for the Texas Rangers. Michael Young went three for three, scored two runs and had one RBI for Texas. Darren O’Day gets the loss, is now 0-1 and Jose Valverde (1-0) the win for Detroit.
The Atlanta Braves shut out the Marlins 5-0 as Tommy Hanson (1-2) went seven innings giving up just four hits, two walks, and striking out five batters.
Brian McCann and Jason Heyward went long for the Braves. The Marlins are now 5-5 and Atlanta 5-6 this year. Chris Volstad (0-1) gave up all five runs the Braves scored in 4 2-3 innings. Marlin relievers shut Atlanta down the rest of the way.
It was cool to cold as the Phillies opened with a loss to the Nationals in the first game of a three game set. The final score was 7-4 and the Phils had ample opportunity to score more and possibly win. With the bases loaded in the seventh, one out, they could not score, same situation in the eighth they did manage two runs.
washington for $126 million this off season.
Tampa Bay beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 and now the Red Sox have the worst record in the American League at 2-9.
Both teams started the day 2-8 so they were both playing hard not to have that record. David Price went 7 2-3 innings for the win and is 1-2 on the season.
Jon Lester (0-1) went seven innings for the Sox and gets the loss.
Johnny Damon went two for four with two RBI for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Red Sox fans continue to say it’s early and the players are not in a panic yet, but this is the team that is supposed to be in the World Series.
