FRIDAY QUICK HITS
Florida in town to play the Phillies this weekend and their first game is a win. The Phillies sent Roy Oswalt to the mound and he pitched well going six innings allowing two runs on four hits. The top of the seventh he went to the mound but could not pitch and left the game with a lower back sprain.
Oswalt left the game with the Phillies up 3-2. In the top of the seventh former Phil Greg Dobbs hit a go ahead two run single for the Marlins. That was the end of scoring for both teams and Florida wins 4-3. Phils Danny Baez(1-1) gets the loss and Edward Mujica(2-1) the win for the Florida Marlins.
Texas was looking for their tenth win of the year and at the expense of the New York Yankees found it as Matt Harrison(3-0) gained his third win of the year. He pitched eight strong innings allowing just two runs on seven hits. Texas turned six double plays to tie an American League record. Neftali Feliz recorded his fifth save of this season. DH Michael Young went two for four with two RBI .
The Yankees scored three runs on nine hits as Curtis Granderson went two for three and hit his third home run. Alex Rodriguez hit his fifth double of the season and his batting average is now .405. Ivan Nova(1-1) gets the loss for New York.
Final score Texas 5 Yankees 3, Texas now 10-3 and New York 7-5.
Cubs pitcher Matt Garza(0-2) gets the loss giving up five runs in six innings.
Reaching .500 for the first time this season the St.Louis Cardinals(7-7) their offense now alive and well beat the Dodgers 11-2. Albert Pujols hit a two run home run and a solo shot for his 40th career multi homer game. Lance Berkman decided to join Albert hitting two home runs also. The Cardinals had nineteen hits, eleven runs and a strong outing on the mound from Kyle Lohse(2-1) to beat the Dodgers.
The Dodgers finished with two runs on seven hits, Jon Garland went four innings in the loss and is 0-1. Garland gave up five runs on nine hits, two were home runs. The Dodgers are now 6-8.
